As we began our Health & Fitness unit we started making connections on our prior knowledge:
How can we improve our health & fitness?
"Not eat too much junk food & exercise a lot" - Mael
"Exercise every day for 1 hour" - Karl
"Follow the food pyramid" - Heegyu
"Instead of snacking on junk food, eat an apple or carrot" - Lilli
"Eat healthy food" - Cheryl
"Drink lots of water" - Kenny
"Eat balanced" - Hannah
"Have a balanced lifestyle" - Ken
"Get enough sleep & don’t use too much technology" - Mael
"Take a nap if you are tired"- Lilli
How will we know if we have improved?
“You will feel it” - Josh
“if you look in the mirror you will see a difference” - Aeddan
“You can weigh yourself” - Andjani
“You will get muscles.” - Matei
"You might notice you are getting better at stuff. Faster at running, better in sports" - Karl
We then took part in a variety of workouts and observed how our bodies changed. We looked at breathing rates, colour of our face and other physical changes to our body.

We learnt about how our heart works to pump blood around our body at heart rate and how our heart rate changes. We used the Cardiograph app on the iPad's to measure our resting Heart Rate & then again after we had completed exercise. Below you can see some of the results:
After completing this we noticed some irregularities in the results. We all agreed that our heart rate should increase after we exercise and we wondered why in the results some people had a decrease in heart rate. Someone suggested that it could be an error with the iPad App as they had trouble with it when they were trying to record their heart rate. After some further discussion we decided that although the app was a good way of helping us to take our heart rate we needed a medical device to be 100% positive our our actual heart rate.
