Here are the final dance performances from Grade 4 for their So You Think You Can Dance unit. The students did a fantastic job with creating their own dances and peer assessed each other, looking at 4 different criteria:
All three Grade 4 classes had a heap of fun dancing to Just Dance during PE this week. Below is a video of all three classes. Which class do you think did the best job? Watch the video then vote for your favourite!
This week we started out Movement Composition unit and it is time to dance! Over the coming weeks we will be creating our own dances and becoming judges to peer assessing each other.
Below you can find the Realtime Boards we started with our discussion on dance styles and synchronization. You can add to these boards if you like by including comments or pictures. If you find a great YouTube clip or picture of a particular style of dance then go ahead and add a comment and include the web address so we can all start sharing our knowledge about dance.

In Grade 4 we have been looking at how we can organise games into different categories. Using the Teaching Games for Understanding model we classified games into 4 categories:
During PE today, Grade 4 reflected on the games of 4Sqaure, 2Square and 2Square/4Square. These are very popular games played nearly every break and lunchtime here at ISS. Unfortunately sometimes there are disagreements and arguments about the games and the rules.
As a class today 4AM reflected and decided to write down all of the rules of these games as a way of making sure that these problems didn't happen anymore.
You can see what they came up with below.
As we near the end of our Invasion Games unit we have been participating in a hybrid game which uses a variety of different skills from Invasion Games like Basketball, Handball, Soccer, AFL and Rugby. In this game you can pass, bounce, kick or run with ball while trying to evade the opposition.
This game is a great way to assess the progress that we have made in Invasion Games as concepts like finding and creating space, passing and moving, transitioning from attack to defence, and team strategies are all important in this game.
Check out the video below and see how you think we did?
Grade 4 are currently in the middle of unit on Invasion Games. These games are team games in which the purpose is to invade the opponents territory while scoring points and keeping the opposing team's points to a minimum, and all within a certain time period. These include sports where the ball is being carried or caught across a line, thrown or shot into a target, or struck with a stick or foot into a specific target area. Invasion games are the most strategic types of games with many transferable skills.
Grade 4 students have been taking part in some fitness testing so that we can track their improvement over the course of the year.
Students worked in pairs or small groups to record each others scores in the following activities:
- Sit and Reach (Flexibility)
- Standing Long Jump (Power)
- Vertical Jump (Power)
- Push Up (Muscular Strength and Endurance)
- Sit Ups (Muscular Strength and Endurance)
- Step Ups (Cardiovascular Endurance)
Grade 4 did a fantastic job at these initial tests and we look forward to charting our physical changes during the year.
